Keeper Curse Strikes!
As Scott Shearer's ankle gave way on the training pitch turf, Paul Lambert's first major crisis of the season struck as with now no senior goalkeepers available he has to rush into the loan market and find a goalkeeper for Saturday's match against Bradford.
The news that the recalled Jamie Young had torn his hamstring was bad enough after another impressive performance between the sticks, but losing summer signing Scott Shearer sparked a mini crisis around the club.
Shearer received a hero's welcome from the travelling Shrewsbury support on Saturday and was hoping to right the wrongs of his shaky start in the Wycombe goalkeepers' jersey. However, it is now up to Paul Lambert to rush into the loan market to beat the registration deadline for the weekend's matches as the only other alternatives available to him are youth 'keepers Adam Holloway and James Reading.
Lambert spoke to the official website earlier about these cruel blows:
'This is unbelievably bad news. We were just coming to terms with Jamie's injury when Scott snapped his ankle during training when he caught his studs in the turf.'
'We're left with two untried youngsters so we've obviously got to get a goalkeeper in on loan and we've got to act quickly.'
Lambert will have to use all his links in the game to try and get a side to rush a reserve keeper down to South Buckinghamshire but with a certain Portugese shot stopper way down the pecking order at West London side Fulham, maybe the solution is easier than expected...
