Wycombe Wanderers drew 2-2 with Dagenham and it shows why teams should always play right to the whistle, the game isn't over until it's over!
The team news that came through was intriguing to say the least. It looked like a 3-5-2 but with no wingers, it seemed unlikely that it would work.
It seemed encouraging at first with Jermaine Easter going close before Oakes clipped the bar with a chipped cross. However, the rest of the half was nothing short of awful. Time and time again Dagenham & Redbridge pumped crosses in from the right which begged the question of why Craig Woodman wasn't even in the squad.
Wycombe were then punished on 34 minutes, Keith Southern's shot from the edge of the area was parried by Shearer but Wycombe's static defence let Sam Sloma bring the ball down, take a touch and calmly place the ball past Scott Shearer. They had deserved it and the fingers were pointed at Lambert once more.
Wycombe were lucky to only go in 1 goal behind, in truth it could have been much more. Only 2 minutes into the second half it was. Chris Moore found himself one-on-one with Scott Shearer after Gary Holt went missing and he slotted past Shearer to make it 2-0.
The game changed it's pattern though. On 51 minutes, Bullock and Torres came on for Boucaud and Oakes and it proved to be a master stroke with both players playing critical roles in the fightback. Bullock was troubling the full back's straight aaway and his crosses put the Dagenham defence under constant pressure.
John Sutton was then brought on to see if his presence in the air would get onto these crosses and only a minute later it was the previous substitute Bullock's introduction that proved telling. Easter worked hard down the right hand side before Bullock took it to the byline and left Bloomfield with an easy header from 6 yards out.
There was certainly a surge in confidence and it even had Lewis Christon trying his luck from 35 yards out. However, time was running out and Sam Saunders peppered the Wycombe goal with 3 shots in 2 minutes. It looked to be too late when Jermaine Easter's 90th minute shot was saved by 'keeper Tony Roberts.
However, it certainly wasn't. Torres ran at the defence on the left side of the area before he was chopped down by the timewasting Danny Foster. 95 minutes on the clock and Easter slotted in the penalty like there was no pressure at all, we had a point and Lambert's blushes were spared.
