The Opposition View - Crewe Alexandra

The Opposition View - Crewe Alexandra

Following today's 3-2 win at Crewe Alexandra, here are some views on the game from the Railwaymen's manager David Artell and a selection of their fans.

"I'm going to see the referee and tell him exactly what I think," said Artell, speaking to the Crewe Chronicle.

"He sent me off because he's rubbish. It's not acceptable, it's a professional game run by amateurs."

"We can blame one man (the referee) and he deserves every bit of criticism that comes his way because he was horrific."

"But we can't concede three goals and expect to win a game of football. I can't blame the ref for the third goal can I? We can't concede three goals at home."

"We should have been out of sight at half time."

"If we won three or four nil today nobody complains because the best team has lost again."

"We didn't deserve to lose.... It was a good performance, very very good," he claimed.

"There was only one team playing good football, one team looking like a football team, but Wycombe are effective. They are fourth in the league, and it's not a coincidence."

The Crewe fans weren't impressed with the ref or their habit of conceding late goals.

The following extracts are taken from Crewe Mad, Facebook & Twitter.

Chris Walley wrote:
"We only have ourselves to blame for the 3rd goal, but my word how has that ref not seen Akinfenwa's handball for their 2nd...? Clueless officials are the scourge of the game!"

Lynn Tomlinson wrote:
"Wycombe didn't "do it to us again" the referee helped too. How blatant was that handball for their 2nd goal?"

Craig Plimbley wrote:
"Referee was stood right next to him for the handball."

Stephen Clifford wrote:
"It was SO clear - everyone in the ground saw it but the one who mattered."

Malcolm Smith wrote:
"The team with more possession, more shots, more shots on target and more corners won the match. I'm not clear what is unjust about that. We need to improve."

@adamGray1250 wrote:
"Wycombe are a good side & we competed with them throughout. Could've easily won it but naïve game-management, and the ref, has cost us dear."

@DyerSean wrote
"Can't blame Artell for today's performance. Made the right subs at the right time to get us back in it. Individual failings from Raynes gifted Wycombe the win. Refereeing is a joke. Unlucky... again!"

Fidler wrote:
"Just when we looked like getting a point today, what happens? Yes, you've guessed it, we let in a goal in the dying minute(s) of the game. We are notorious for it."

Dave Egerton wrote:
"Back line in chaos and we are managed by an ex centre half."

@DaleJasper1 wrote:
"The only consolation was getting 12/1 on a Wycombe win as soon as #crewealex made it 2-2."

Connor Brock wrote:
"Very poor side that can't see out a game! You don't let your best players go when you need them most. Artell and the board need to take a long hard look at themselves!"

Jan Neale wrote:
"Only 3 points from the bottom two. Another disaster in the last minutes of a match."

Chris Cross wrote:
"Going out of the league is what this excuse of a football club deserve. A shambles from top to bottom. I've supported the Alex for 60yrs but they're really trying my patience."

@aitchyrobinson wrote:
"I'm just glad I found out about Wycombe's third before I found out about the equaliser. Sometimes I hate Crewe so much."

@Wal84 wrote:
"Most Crewe games hurt me, but that one... that one really really hurt!"
