The Opposition View - Preston North End

In the wake of yesterday's 5-1 defeat at home to Preston, here are some views on the game from the Lilywhites' manager Alex Neil and a selection of their fans.

"I thought the standard of some of the goals was excellent," said Neil, speaking to the
Lancashire Post

"We have some real quality players in our group which shone through today."

"We looked at Wycombe, and looked how they play, and we knew it was going to be a difficult match."

"Whenever you come away to lower league opposition, the first thing you have to do is match them for effort, endeavour, tackling and a willingness to win and work."

'I thought we did all that," said the Preston boss.

"When you look at the quality we showed today, I think we are a really good side."

The Preston fans were delighted were their team's performance.

"Very odd game. We felt pedestrian but completely controlled almost the whole game. If we`d played our first XI it could have genuinely been a cricket score. Odd as normally the smaller club are up for the scalp but they genuinely didn`t seem up for it. Ainsworth got a good reception and engaged with fans a lot, felt sorry for him in some ways that his team didn`t turn up."

"Wycombe were never going to win that game. That said, they probably caused us more problems defensively than some Championship teams have, but I'm not sure whether it was our lax defending or the disruptive influence of Akinfenwa. Either way, our chances far outnumbered theirs so it would never have cost us had they been more clinical."

"Wycombe concede lots of goals and it was easy to see why. Good that we took advantage though."

"Played well as a team and a great run out for a good few of our fringe players."

"I think Wycombe supporters are confusing us with Real Madrid. Nice to read all the compliments about us on their forum. I don't think some of us realise just how far we've come in a short period of time."

"Good performance today but let`s not get ahead of ourselves, it was league two opposition. Some absolutely wonderful goals though."

"One of the most enjoyable away days I've had for a while."
