Preview: Wycombe Wanderers v Crawley Town

Wycombe Wanderers entertain Crawley Town on Saturday in their 18th league game of the season.

The Chairboys crashed to a 2-1 defeat at Morecambe at the weekend.

The Shrimps took the lead with a free header at the back post and doubled their advantage when Adam McGurk was given time and space to pick his spot from the edge of the box.

Talismanic striker Adebayo Akinfenwa pulled one back late in the game, but there was no reprieve as Wanderers made it five consecutive league games without a victory.

Alternating between good and bad runs of results has been a feature of the last few seasons for Wycombe, who will be keen to return to winning ways and find some consistency for the remainder of the campaign.

The club's official Twitter feed today quoted manager Gareth Ainsworth as saying: "We've been working hard to tighten up on a few things. Our league form has tailed off a bit and we need a win."

"We're not feeling pressure in this mini wobble. I've stared relegation in the face on that day at Torquay. That was pressure. A few things have gone against us but we'll get that win soon I'm sure."

Tightening up at the back is clearly a priority for the Chairboys, who have scored 35 but also conceded 35 in their 21 outings in all competitions this season.

In their 17 league games Wanderers have scored 32 goals from 92 shots on target.

After 17 league games last season they had scored 20 goals from 65 shots on target.

This season they have faced 71 shots on target and conceded 27 league goals.

Last season they had faced 83 shots on target but conceded only 22 league goals.

Despite recent results, Wanderers occupy 7th spot in the table with 27 points, three places and 5 points better off than they were at the same stage last season.

Ainsworth made just one change to his starting line-up against the Shrimps at the weekend.

Eberechi Eze was handed a recall to the side having been refused permission to appear in the FA Cup by parent club QPR. He was preferred to Matt Bloomfield, who dropped to the bench.

On player availability, Ainsworth is quoted as saying: "There are no new injuries. Michael Harriman is the only one we're not expecting back before Christmas. There are some good signs on the injury front for once."

This suggests quicker than expected recoveries for Scott Kashket (pelvis), Nathan Tyson (knee ligament damage), and Josh Umerah (ankle).

Harriman faces another few months on the sidelines after breaking his leg.

Crawley Town claimed a share of the spoils after drawing 1-1 at home to Forest Green Rovers at the weekend.

The Red Devils have lost 8, drawn 5 and won only 4 of their 17 league matches this season.

With an average of exactly a point a game, they currently lie 18th in the table, just 3 points clear of the relegation zone.

Harry Kewell`s side are also the lowest goalscorers in League Two having hit the net just 13 times in those 17 games.

The Reds did the double over Wycombe last season.

Neither Crawley (Ranked 20 in the current form guide) or Wycombe (Ranked 22) have won any of their last five league games.

Kewell made two changes to his starting line-up last time out.

Cedric Evina and Thomas Verheydt were both handed recalls to the side with Panutche Camara dropping to the bench and Josh Doherty on international duty with the Northern Ireland U21 squad.

Josh Yorwerth was recalled to the bench having been subject to internal disciplinary procedures.

Aliu 'Kaby' Djalo and Ibrahim Meite were both left out of the 18-man squad.

Captain Jimmy Smith will be assessed ahead of this weekend's trip to Adams Park after being forced off with a knock at the weekend.

Doherty is available again but Mark Randall remains doubtful with an injury picked up in a county cup tie.

Dean Cox and Moussa Sanoh both remain sidelined with hamstring injuries.
