The Opposition View - Morecambe

The Opposition View - Morecambe

In the wake of yesterday's 2-1 defeat at Morecambe, here are some views on the game from the Shrimps' manager Jim Bentley and a selection of their fans.

"We started really well," said Bentley, speaking to BBC Lancs Sport

"I think they had five minutes at the start where they got a couple of shots off down their right side with Mackail-Smith, but after that I thought we were very good and created chances."

"Both teams really competed and worked hard with a good tempo in a good atmosphere."

"There wasn't much football being played, as the pitch has taken a bit of a battering this week, and I think both sides' work rate and formations cancelled each other out."

"It was more of a battle and a scrap and you know when you play against Wycombe you're going to have to do that."

"In the final third we looked decent, scored a fabulous header and then got another one just before half time."

"But we knew what was going to happen second half, they were going to throw caution to the wind."

"They got the goal back, so it was a nervous ending but we got there in the end."

"The big thing today, is we scored when we were on top, took the game to them and deserved our 2-0 lead at half time."

The Morecambe fans were delighted with their side's performance.

The following extracts are taken from Shrimps Voices, Vital Morecambe and Twitter.

"Great result, excellent first half display. Lost our way in the second half against a tough outfit."

"t was squeaky bum time throughout the second half for Jim Bentley and the Shrimps supporters but they probably deserved their first-ever win on home soil against Wycombe for their dominant display during the first. For once, Morecambe actually took their chances whereas the opposition didn`t."

"We looked nervous second half. They battered us for 35 minutes so their goal was always coming."

"Could our FA Cup win prove to be the turning point of our season? Wins build confidence (obviously) and it seems we are actually looking to score now, not just keep a clean sheet. Great win."

BerlinWaller wrote:
"Much better now we are trying to score goals rather than p1ss about with it all the time. Baz made some great saves but we did look a threat going forward."

Posh wrote:
"It was a great first half performance. Our problem was sitting deep second half when we could have added to the score line. Wycombe were a really good footballing side and a pleasure to watch but the difference was that we out fought them for most of the game and outplayed them at key points."

P/T Indie wrote:
"As soon as the second half kicked off we seemed to look a bit negative. Were they told to sit back and defend? Would have really liked us to push on instead of hanging on for dear life."

"Excellent performance. Sat next to Max Muller and his lady. Had a good natter with him. Sprang to his feet when we scored our first. Says a lot for his enjoyment playing for us. Liked the way that Thommo applauded the away fans and got a big hug from the 'beast' both before and after the game."

"It was good to see the response from former teammates and fans. Wycombe supporters were very respectful. A lively away crew."

"Cracking performance by the Shrimps today, Akinfenwa was in Kenyon`s back pocket all game. Out of the bottom two, only up from here."
