Preview: Morecambe v Wycombe Wanderers

Wycombe Wanderers travel to Morecambe on Saturday for their 17th league game of the season.

The Chairboys won 2-0 at Solihull Moors in the first round of the FA Cup at the weekend.

Goals from Nick Freeman and Craig Mackail-Smith earned Wanderers a second round tie against either Billericay Town or Leatherhead who both play in the Isthmian Premier League, three divisions below the Blues.

It was a welcome victory for Wycombe who had failed to win any of their previous five games in all competitions.

In their last league game, Wanderers drew 3-3 at home to Cheltenham Town, a match which typified their prolific form in front of goal and shakiness at the back.

Only Luton have scored more than Wycombe's 31 goals in League Two, and only Stevenage, Yeovil, Forest Green and Chesterfield have conceded more than the 25 Wanderers have shipped.

Gareth Ainsworth's side are currently 7th in the table with 7 wins, 6 draws and 3 defeats giving them a total of 27 points, 8 more than they had at the same stage last season.

Without a win in their last 4 league games, Wanderers travel to a happy hunting ground in Morecambe where the Shrimps have never beaten them in 9 previous attempts, the tally standing at 5 wins for the Chairboys and 4 draws

Against Solihull, Ainsworth made three changes to the side that started against Cheltenham.

Anthony Stewart made a welcome return after recovering from injury, as did loanee Dan Scarr. There was also a recall for Matt Bloomfield.

They replaced Adam El-Abd and Will de Havilland, who both dropped to the bench, while Eberechi Eze wasn't involved having been refused permission to appear in the cup by parent club QPR.

In injury news, Ainsworth is hopeful that Scott Kashket (pelvis) could be fit before Christmas, but loanee Josh Umerah is recovering from ankle surgery and may not be back before January.

Michael Harriman (broken leg) and Nathan Tyson (knee ligament damage) are unlikely to return until the new year.

Morecambe beat a Leicester City U21 side 4-2 on penalties after drawing 2-2 in a Football League Trophy tie at the Globe Arena on Tuesday.

The Shrimps went into the game on the back of a 3-0 home win over Hartlepool United in the FA Cup, earning them a trip to Shrewsbury Town in the second round.

Jim Bentley's side have lost 8, drawn 5 and won just 3 of their 16 league matches this season and have slumped to second bottom of the table.

Bentley made six changes to the starting line-up against the Foxes in midweek.

Loanee Mitchell Lund returned after a month out through injury whilst Dan Nizic was handed a recall between the sticks.

Sam Lavelle and Elliott Osborne were given rare starts whilst Rhys Turner returned to the bench following a groin strain.

Barry Roche, Max Muller, Patrick Brough, Aaron Wildig, Adam McGurk and Kevin Ellison were all rested.

Luke Conlan will be assessed ahead of this weekend's visit from the Chairboys after being forced off with a knock in midweek.

Dean Winnard has been struggling with an Achilles injury for most of the season and is a major doubt.

Max Muller is ineligible to face his parent club under the terms of his loan.

Reece Deakin faces up to two months on the sidelines after suffering a hairline fracture in his left leg.
