Preview: Wycombe Wanderers v Crewe Alexandra

Wycombe Wanderers entertain Crewe Alexandra on Tuesday in their 10th league game of the season.

Exactly 364 days since Wanderers thumped Crewe 5-1 at Adams Park, they welcome back an Alex side that was hammered 5-0 at home to Carlisle on Saturday.

The Chairboys meanwhile were extending their excellent unbeaten away record with a 2-1 win at old rivals Colchester United, taking their tally to an impressive 11 points from 5 games on the road.

Next they will aim to improve a disappointing record at Adams Park where the Blues have won just one of their six matches in all competitions, conceding a whopping 16 goals in the process.

Saturday's win over the U's was a day full of welcome firsts.

It was the first goal of the season for both Nathan Tyson and Craig Mackail-Smith.

It was the first time this season that Wycombe have outscored their opponents in the second half of a game.

And it was the first time in 15 years that Wanderers have beaten Colchester in a league game, home or away.

With 4 wins, 3 draws and 2 defeats so far this season, Wanderers lie 10th in the table with 15 points, just 2 points below 3rd placed Luton Town.

Manager Gareth Ainsworth made three changes to his starting line-up against the U's.

Tyson made a welcome return to the side, while loanees Dan Scarr and Eberechi Eze were both handed recalls.

Adam El-Abd dropped to the bench, while Dominic Gape and Matt Bloomfield both missed out through injury as did Paris Cowan-Hall and Josh Umerah.

Jack Williams, Sido Jombati and Nick Freeman were all handed recalls to the bench.

Ainsworth has no newly reported injury concerns ahead of the clash with the Railwaymen.

Gape, Bloomfield, Cowan-Hall and Umerah must all be considered doubtful.

Danny Rowe hasn't been involved since mid-August for personal reasons and is unlikely to feature on Tuesday.

No timescale has been set for the return of Scott Kashket.

Crewe Alexandra suffered their heaviest defeat of the season when they were thrashed 5-0 by Carlisle United at Gresty Road on Saturday.

The Railwaymen went into the game on the back of a 3-0 defeat away at Exeter City.

They have now suffered three straight league defeats without scoring a single goal.

With 3 wins, 2 draws and 4 defeats so far this season, Alex lie 16th in the table with 11 points.

Manager David Artell made just one change to his starting line-up against the Cumbrians.

Loanee Conor Grant made a welcome return to the side after recovering from a fortnight out with a concussion. He replaced Zoumana Bakayogo, who dropped to the bench.

Brad Walker will be assessed ahead of the midweek clash with the Chairboys after he was forced off at half-time at the weekend with a knock.

Perry Ng will be hoping to return after missing the last two games with a twisted ankle.

James Jones hasn't played so far this season due to a pelvis injury but could be back within a month, while George Ray has been told to rest his fractured back for the next two months.
