Preview: Mansfield Town v Wycombe Wanderers

Wycombe Wanderers travel to Mansfield Town on Tuesday for their 7th league game of the season.

The Chairboys banked another point with a thoroughly entertaining 0-0 draw at Newport County on Saturday.

After the match, both sides were bemoaning missed chances, but the one big positive for Wanderers was their first clean sheet of the season.

Apart from a welcome confidence-boost for the defence, the main talking points after the game were the performances of two young loanees.

Josh Umerah had the unenviable task of deputising for the injured Adebayo Akinfenwa in his full league debut, and following a tentative start, the Charlton youngster grew into the game and produced a powerful second-half performance.

Ebere Eze was only given a 15 minute cameo at the end of the game, but that was enough to whet the appetite of 302 travelling fans. Poised, skilful, comfortable on the ball and very direct, the QPR youngster gave the Wycombe midfield a totally different dimension.

The draw at Rodney Parade takes Gareth Ainsworth's side to 11 points, 6 points more than they had at the same stage last season. They now lie 6th in the early season table.

Ainsworth made just one change to his starting line-up last time out, with Umerah replacing top-scorer Akinfenwa.

Ainsworth has no new injury concerns (that we know of) ahead of the midweek trip to Field Mill.

Akinfenwa will be assessed, Danny Rowe (personal reasons) is doubtful, and exactly how close to a return Nathan Tyson, Sam Saunders and Scott Kashket are, is anyone`s guess.

Mansfield Town claimed all three points with an impressive 4-1 thrashing of Grimsby Town at Field Mill on Saturday.

The Stags have lost just one of their opening six league matches, winning two and drawing three. They lie 10th in the table with 9 points.

Steve Evans' side have scored 12 goals in their six league games and their top marksman is former Chairboy Lee Angol with 4 to his name including 2 from the penalty spot.

Mansfield have failed to beat Wycombe in the last half-a-dozen meetings between the two sides at Field Mill, a run that stretches back to February 2007.

In those six games, Wanderers have scored 11 goals and the Stags only 4.

Evans made three changes to his starting line-up last time out with Alex MacDonald handed a recall to the side.

Calum Butcher was handed his full league debut following his recent arrival from Millwall, and Johnny Hunt also made his debut after a summer move from Chester.

They were preferred to Paul Anderson and Will Atkinson, who both dropped to the bench. Malvind Benning missed out through injury whilst Hayden White was left out of the 18-man squad altogether.

Zander Diamond made a welcome return to the bench after recovering from a fortnight out with a muscle strain.

Jack Thomas, Paul Digby and Omari Sterling-James were all left out of the squad.

Evans has no new injury concerns ahead of the clash with the Chairboys.

He will check upon the fitness of Benning, who has a slight hamstring strain, otherwise he has a fully-fit squad to choose from.
