Preview: Wycombe Wanderers v Notts County

Wycombe Wanderers entertain Notts County on Saturday in their 3rd league game of the season.

The Chairboys claimed all three points with a comfortable 3-2 win at Port Vale last weekend thanks to a brace of headers from Adebayo Akinfenwa and a fine strike from Paris Cowan-Hall.

Such was the visitors' dominance that the 3-0 scoreline after 88 minutes actually flattered the hosts, but some tired and sloppy defending from Wanderers allowed Vale to make it 3-2 with 5 nail-biting minutes of stoppage time to play.

In the end, all that suffered was the goal difference, but it's interesting to note that 5 of the 6 goals Wycombe have conceded this season have been shipped in the second half, while the 5 goals they've scored have all come before the break.

Having conceded two goals in every game so far, Wanderers will be keen to tighten up at the back, but in the meantime they've added to their firepower by signing experienced striker Craig Mackail-Smith who was recently released by Luton.

The Scottish international has signed a one-year contract and is expected to go straight into the squad against County.

Cowan-Hall was substituted after only 25 minutes at Vale Park with a hamstring problem and must be a doubt for Saturday clash.

Defender Anthony Stewart will be hoping to return to the squad following an ankle injury, but Striker Scott Kashket has been struggling with a hip / groin problem for most of 2017 and no timescale has been set for his return.

Notts County beat an Everton under 21 side 2-1 at Meadow Lane in the Football League Trophy on Tuesday evening.

At the weekend, the Magpies claimed all three points with a 2-0 win over ten-man Chesterfield, on-loan midfielder Jorge Grant coming off the bench to notch a match-winning brace.

Manager Kevin Nolan made nine changes to his starting line-up in midweek with only midfielder Elliot Hewitt and winger Lewis Alessandra retaining their place in the side. The other nine players who started against the Spireites were rested.

Nolan has no new injury concerns ahead of this weekend's trip to Adams Park and is likely to revert to the side that beat Chesterfield.

The Magpies are unbeaten in their last four trips to Adams Park, winning three and drawing one.

Midfielder Michael O'Connor remains sidelined with a long-term injury, otherwise Nolan has a fully-fit squad to choose from.

Here are some early season stats...
