The Opposition View - Cambridge United

The Opposition View - Cambridge United

Following yesterday's 1-0 win over Cambridge United, here are some views on the game from the U's manager Shaun Derry and a selection of their fans.

"Fair play to Wycombe and the way that they approached the game," said Derry, speaking to the Cambridge News

"We had trouble matching them physically, especially in the first half, and we came in at half time and had a word with ourselves."

"We tried very hard to shoot ourselves in the foot in those first 10 to 15 minutes but thankfully it didn't come off for them."

"In terms of the two good chances they had, with respect to Gareth Ainsworth and his team, that was us giving them chances."

"I think if you look at the second half, we've turned off at a key moment from a set play and that was the difference."

"We've said so many times before that when these teams come up against each other, it's the finest of margins."

"As much we rode our luck in those first 10 minutes, their keeper has made two fantastic saves in the last five minutes and we end up losing the game."

The Cambridge fans expected more from their side.

"A big game we had to win, and yet again we only created chances when the match had gone."

"Thank **** that season is over. Some of the most boring, uninspiring, negative anti-football I've witnessed in a long, long, time. A team of mostly not good enough players led by a clueless muppet, backed by a board that spent all season with their head in the sand. Thanks for nothing."

"Season summed up in one game. We looked reluctant to give it a go, as though the players didn't quite realise only a win would do. As far as I'm concerned, this has been a boring, uninspiring season and how the hell we went into the last game still in with a chance is beyond me."

"If ever there was a classic Shaun Derry performance, then that was it! Negative, cautious and bottling a must-win big game. Not too annoyed or angry, I mean, we all knew this was going to happen, didn't we?""

"Every time we have a big game we balls it up. Sorry, but these players messed the season up in August and September. Never mind losing to Wycombe. it was 5 lame defeats in our first 8 games that cost us. If we'd bothered a bit earlier in the season, today wouldn't have mattered."

"F***ing woeful performance. No effort. Defended for 90 minutes. I'm sick and tired of turning up en mass, giving huge support and consistently watching the team bottle it when we get within touching distance of the play-offs. Derry out."

"Not good enough. Should have been 2-0 down in the first half. Nothing up front yet again."

"The play-offs were there for the taking this season, but what is beyond annoying is the terrible football served up over the 46 games."

"Lets face it guys - even if we had of scraped into the Play Offs, we would have been playing Luton and we all know how that would have finished!"
