Preview: Morecambe v Wycombe Wanderers

Wycombe Wanderers travel to Morecambe on Saturday for their 45th and penultimate league game of the season.

Wanderers claimed all three points with a fully deserved 2-1 win over league leaders and already-promoted Doncaster Rovers at Adams Park last weekend.

It was the Chairboys' first home win since 4th February when they beat Portsmouth, yet another side to have secured automatic promotion.

The triumph over Rovers ended a run of seven home games without a victory, and that, coupled with a run of 4 consecutive away wins, has reignited Wanderers' chances of making the play-offs.

Up to 9th in the table, a point below 7th placed Stevenage, it's out of their hands, so Gareth Ainsworth's side can only ensure they take maximum points from their two remaining games and hope that other results go their way.

First up is a long trip to the Globe Arena to face Morecambe who coincidentally scuppered Wanderers' automatic promotion hopes by beating them in the penultimate match two seasons ago.

With Luton guaranteed a play-off spot, here are the remaining fixtures of the eight sides vying for the other three places...

Exeter (68 pts +18 GD)
Doncaster (A)
Carlisle (H)

Blackpool (67 pts +22 GD)
Notts County (A)
Orient (H)

Stevenage (66 pts +7 GD)
Yeovil (A)
Accrington (H)

Mansfield (65 pts +5 GD)
Portsmouth (H)
Crawley (A)

Wycombe (65 pts +4 GD)
Morecambe (A)
Cambridge (H)

Carlisle (65 pts -1 GD)
Newport (H)
Exeter (A)

Cambridge (63 pts +7 GD)
Crawley (H)
Wycombe (A)

Colchester (63 pts +6 GD)
Orient (A)
Yeovil (H)

Ainsworth made just one change to his starting line-up last time out with midfielder Matt Bloomfield handed a recall to the side in preference to striker Paul Hayes who dropped to the bench.

Ainsworth stuck with the same 18-man squad which meant there was no place for defenders Max Müller and Will de Havilland, midfielder Sam Wood or loan striker Alex Jakubiak.

He has no new injury concerns ahead of this weekend's clash with the Shrimps and could have a fully-fit squad to choose from.

Defender Anthony Stewart returned to full training last week after recovering from two months out with a medial knee ligament injury whilst winger Paris Cowan-Hall returned to training this week after recovering from an unspecified injury which has kept him out for over a month. Both players will be hoping to make the squad.

Morecambe conceded twice in injury-time as they lost 3-1 at play-off chasers Exeter City last weekend.

The Shrimps appeared to be on course for a point courtesy of substitute Kevin Ellison's superb equaliser but midfielder Michael Rose conceded a soft penalty in the second minute of stoppage time and the Grecians scored a third on the counter attack just moments later.

Morecambe went into the game on the back of a 1-1 draw at home to play-off chasers Colchester United on Easter Monday.

The Shrimps have lost three, drawn two and won one of their last six games and occupy 18th place in the table with nothing left to play for but pride.

Manager Jim Bentley made two changes to his starting line-up last time out with defender Ryan Edwards making a welcome return after recovering from a knee injury. Loan striker Antony Evans was also handed a recall.

Defender Alex Whitmore and striker Kevin Ellison both dropped to the bench.

Midfielder Aaron Wildig kept his place in the side after recovering from a tight hamstring, whilst wing-back Lee Molyneux kept his place on the bench following a foot injury.

First-choice goalkeeper Barry Roche was also on the bench after recovering from a wrist injury and is set to be recalled between the sticks for this weekend's clash with the Chairboys.

Striker Paul Mullin is the only doubt after being forced off with a hamstring strain at Exeter.
