Preview: Wycombe Wanderers v Cheltenham Town

Wycombe Wanderers entertain Cheltenham Town on Saturday in their 41st league game of the season.

The Chairboys claimed all three points with a 2-0 win over bottom of the table Leyton Orient at Brisbane Road last weekend.

The hosts were reduced to ten men after only 28 minutes, and Wanderers took advantage with goals from Matt Bloomfield and Myles Weston in the 37th and 38th minute.

It was a third consecutive away win for Gareth Ainsworth's side, who occupy 10th place in the table, 4 points adrift of the final play-off place.

With only six games remaining, the Blues can't afford to fall further behind, and need to rediscover their home form to stand any chance of bridging the gap.

Having collected a creditable 30 points from their first 14 home games (2.14 pts per game), Wanderers have failed to win any of their last 5 outings at Adams Park, banking only 2 points in the process (0.4 pts per game).

The good news for Wycombe fans is the imminent return of striker Scott Kashket whose emergence in the middle of the season rescued a dismal start and helped propel the Chairboys from 21st place to within touching distance of the top three.

Paris Cowan-Hall and Dayle Southwell are also reportedly back in contention, with Marcus Bean not far behind and Anthony Stewart apparently making good progress.

Ainsworth made three changes to his starting line-up last time out with Aaron Pierre making a welcome return from injury, while Matt Bloomfield and Garry Thompson were both handed recalls to the side.

The three who missed out were Dominic Gape who dropped to the bench, and Max Müller and Alex Jakubiak who weren't included in the squad.

Cheltenham Town claimed all three points with a 3-1 win over fellow strugglers Morecambe at Whaddon Road last weekend.

The Robins went into the game on the back of four straight league defeats and have won just one of their last half-a-dozen matches, drawing one and losing the other four.

Saturday's victory saw them climb one place to 21st in the League Two table, six points above the relegation zone.

Manager Gary Johnson is still recovering from heart surgery and watched Saturday's game from the stands. Assistant manager Russell Milton remains in caretaker charge and made four changes to the starting line-up.

Midfielder Kyle Storer made a welcome return after serving a four-match ban, while full-back Jordan Cranston, midfielder James Rowe and striker Dan Holman were all handed recalls to the side.

Defenders Jack Barthram, Liam Davis and Tin Plavotic, and midfielder James Dayton all dropped to the bench.

Loan full-back Alex Pike (abductor muscle) and centre-back Dan O'Shaughnessy (foot) both returned to training last week after recovering from their respective injuries and are available for selection.

Milton has no new injury concerns ahead of this weekend's clash with the Chairboys but will be without goalkeeper Scott Brown, who is ineligible to face his parent club under the terms of his loan.

Understudy goalkeeper Callum Kitscha has been ruled out with an ankle injury and the Robins are unlikely to field 19-year-old Rhys Lovett, preferring to sign a keeper on an emergency 7-day loan. Current favourite is Rob Lainton from Bury.
