Preview: Hartlepool United v Wycombe Wanderers

Wycombe Wanderers travel to Hartlepool United on Saturday for their 38th league game of the season.

The Chairboys had to settle for a share of the spoils after letting slip a first-half lead to draw 1-1 with Plymouth Argyle at Adams Park on Tuesday.

A much improved first-half performance deserved more than the one goal scored by Myles Weston who converted an inch-perfect cross from Michael Harriman.

Pressing the Pilgrims high up the pitch and using both the long-ball and a passing game, Wanderers were easier on the eye than they have been for a while.

Sadly the second-half performance was a disappointment and deteriorated the longer the game went on. The visitors pounced on the weakness, and the Blues were ultimately grateful for the draw.

Gareth Ainsworth's side went into the game on the back of a goal-less draw at home to Blackpool and are now unbeaten in their last four league matches.

They have however won just one of their last nine league games and have banked a measly 6 points from the last possible 27.

After Tuesday's result they remain 11th in the League Two table but are now 5 points adrift of the play-off places, with the added handicap of a vastly inferior goal-difference.

Ainsworth made two changes to his starting line-up on Tuesday with midfielder Dominic Gape and winger Myles Weston both handed recalls to the side. Midfielder Sam Wood and winger Paris Cowan-Hall both dropped to the bench.

Defender Sido Jombati was recalled to the bench, replacing winger Garry Thompson, who missed out with a knock.

Midfielder Marcus Bean is the latest to pick up an injury and he will be assessed ahead of this weekend's clash with Pools, as will Thompson and midfielder Matt Bloomfield.

Anthony Stewart is likely to miss the rest of the season after suffering knee ligament damage.

There is still no news on strikers Scott Kashket and Paul Hayes.

Hartlepool United claimed all three points with a 1-0 win over play-off chasers Cambridge United at the Abbey Stadium on Tuesday.

Pools went into the game on the back of a 2-1 defeat at fellow strugglers Notts County, and have won three, lost two and drawn one of their last half-a-dozen league matches.

Tuesday`s victory saw them climb two places to 20th in the League Two table and they are now nine points ahead of Newport County and Leyton Orient who occupy the two relegation spots.

Manager Dave Jones made just one change to his starting line-up last time out with midfielder Brad Walker making a welcome return from an ankle knock. He replaced midfielder Lewis Hawkins who dropped to the bench.

Otherwise, Jones stuck to the same 18-man squad but may be forced into a change for this weekend's clash with the Chairboys after striker Rhys Oates was forced off with a thigh strain in midweek.

Defenders Matthew Bates and Sean Kavanagh (both hamstring) remain doubtful whilst defender Rob Jones is ruled-out with a knee injury.

The game comes too soon for defender Carl Magnay, following four months out with an anterior cruciate knee ligament (ACL) injury) whilst striker Billy Paynter has been ruled-out for the rest of the season following surgery on his Achilles.

First-choice goalkeeper Trevor Carson is still recovering from surgery on his shoulder and won't be fit until next season. Defender Jordan Richards has had his loan at Alfreton Town extended for the rest of the season.
