Preview: Wycombe Wanderers v Blackpool

Wycombe Wanderers entertain Blackpool on Saturday in their 36th league game of the season.

The Chairboys claimed all three points when they came from behind to beat play-off rivals Grimsby Town 2-1 at Blundell Park at the weekend.

Gareth Ainsworth's side will be mightily relieved to have recorded their first victory in eight matches in all competitions.

They went into the game on the back of a 2-2 draw at Acccrington Stanley and currently lie 11th in the League Two table, 4 points adrift of the play off places.

With only eleven games to play, Wanderers are 5 points worse off than they were at the same stage last season.

Last season however, they won only one of their final eleven matches, so the good news is, there's still plenty of room for improvement in the current campaign.

Only three sides have lost fewer league games than Blackpool this season, and the Seasiders have scored 12 goals in their last 5 outings and are ranked 4th in the current form guide.

So it's a big test for Wanderers who host 2nd placed Plymouth just three days later in a double header that could either build the momentum required for a play-off charge or kill their chances altogether.

Ainsworth made just one change to his starting line-up last time out with striker Dayle Southwell handed a recall to the side in place of winger Paris Cowan-Hall who dropped to the bench.

Midfielder Dominic Gape was the latest casualty to vanish from the squad and he was replaced on the bench by winger Myles Weston.

Wanderers are currently missing Gape and his fellow midfielder Sam Saunders, first-choice centre backs Aaron Pierre and Anthony Stewart, and strikers Scott Kashket and Paul Hayes.

When any of them are likely to return is information not shared with the fans.

Blackpool claimed all three points with a comfortable 3-0 win at second-placed Plymouth Argyle in a re-arranged league clash at Home Park on Tuesday.

The Tangerines have now recorded back-to-back league victories, having won 3-1 at home to neighbours Morecambe at the weekend.

They have lost just one of their last eleven league games, winning three and drawing the other seven.

Tuesday's victory saw them leapfrog Wycombe to climb to 10th place in the League Two table.

Manager Gary Bowyer made just one change to his starting line-up in midweek with left-back Andy Taylor handed a recall to the side in preference to defender Will Aimson who dropped to the bench.

Striker Jamille Matt made a welcome return to the bench after recovering from a knock, but defender Eddie Nolan and striker Raul Corriera were both left out of the 18-man squad.

Bowyer has no new injury concerns ahead of this weekend's clash with the Chairboys but remains without the services of four players.

First-choice goalkeeper Sam Slocombe has been ruled-out with a thigh injury whilst midfielder Neil Danns remains sidelined with a hamstring injury.

Midfielder Jim McAlister has been ruled-out for the rest of the season with a broken leg whilst striker Kyle Vassell faces a battle to play again this season after suffering a broken foot in the recent home draw with Barnet.
