Blues sink the Stones

Wealdstone 1 Wycombe Wanderers 2

A much improved second-half performance was enough to earn the Blues a narrow victory over Conference South side Wealdstone.

A disappointing first-half display produced only one notable effort on goal for Gareth Ainsworth's men, the Stones' keeper parrying a Junior Morias shot and Steven Craig firing the rebound against the post.

The home side were far more dangerous going forward, hitting the woodwork once and bringing four excellent saves out of the impressive Charlie Horlock.

The second-half was a different matter as Wycombe gradually strengthened their side with six substitutes who are all likely to start against Newport on the opening day.

Within minutes of the restart, Matt McClure nodded home from close range after Tommy Fletcher had headed a corner-kick back into the danger area.

Further efforts arrived from McClure, Doherty, Jombati and Morias as the Blues upped their game considerably.

But for all their new-found dominance, Wycombe conceded a late equaliser, Wealdstone's Nikki Ahamed finishing a neat move from a tight angle.

Fortunately there was still time for Sam Wood to rifle home a winner from a Junior Morias cross.

Line-up
