Preview: Wycombe Wanderers v Fleetwood Town

Wycombe Wanderers entertain Fleetwood Town on Tuesday in their 30th league game of the season.

This fixture was rearranged following the late postponement of the match originally scheduled to be played on the 29th December.

Wycombe claimed their first point at Adams Park in 2014 following a drab 0-0 draw with fellow strugglers Accrington Stanley on Saturday, whilst Fleetwood`s fixture at Newport on Friday evening was called off due to a waterlogged pitch.

The game against Stanley was billed as a must-win game from various quarters but a lethargic performance lacked the urgency, skill and craft to break down the visitors' defence. In truth they were barely tested, save for Recce Styche`s impressive shot after turning on a sixpence, but he was superbly denied by Stanley keeper Marcus Bettinelli.

In the end, the Chairboys were grateful to the linesman`s flag for disallowing a late goal by Piero Mingoia and denying the visitors a smash and grab victory. The point was enough to drag Wycombe a point away from Torquay in 23rd position, but after their game with Bury at Plainmoor was postponed the Wanderers have now played a game more than the Gulls.

The one positive to glean was Wycombe`s first clean sheet at Adams Park since the opening day of the season. The rather more extensive list of negatives include a winless run at home that still stretches back to the 12th October, and the fact that it's now five home games without scoring a goal, and just one win in the last seventeen league games.

Next up at Adams Park are the Cod Army, who currently lie sixth in the table despite being winless in their last three matches. Before suffering a 3-1 home defeat to Chesterfield in the JPT area final, Fleetwood conceded a last minute winner against York at Highbury Avenue, which followed a stalemate against Scunthorpe United.

It will be only the second time that Fleetwood have visited the Chair Metropolis, having suffered a last minute defeat in their previousd visit in March 2013 courtesy of Anthony Stewart`s late header.

There have been two other meetings at Highbury Avenue, which saw the Blues win one game and lose the other. An abject performance led to a 2-0 FA Cup defeat in November 2011, before a single Bruno Andrade goal was enough to secure the points in October 2013.

Gareth Ainsworth is unlikely to make wholesale changes despite the disappointment of failing to break down Accrington on Saturday. Dean Morgan and Paris Cowan-Hall`s return to fitness were a welcome boost, and Reece Styche created the only real moment of quality before being immediately substituted for the ineffectual Steven Craig.
