The Opposition View - Mansfield Town

The Opposition View - Mansfield Town

Following yesterday's 2-2 draw at Mansfield, here are the views of their manager Paul Cox and the Stags supporters.

Cox thought his side deserved to win the match. ''Since I've been involved in football, I think that is the most one sided game I've never won. I would like to see what the stats were as I think Wycombe only had two shots on target and scored both of them.''

''I couldn't have asked more from the boys though. In horrible conditions I thought we dominated the game from start to finish,'' Cox continued.

''The least we deserved was a draw. I thought we played excellent and passed the ball around on a really horrible surface.''

''I don`t think anyone would have been surprised if we came in 2-1 or 3-1 up at half-time,'' he added.

Cox also saved some praise for Matt Ingram: ''Their goalkeeper has pulled off a number of world-class saves. You just start to think it is going to be one of those days.''

The Mansfield fans thought a point was the least that their fight back deserved, and cursed Matt Ingram's performance.

The following extracts are taken from StagsNet.

Vicstag said: ''We keep giving the opposition a two goal start... Good comeback though. Now let's bury Bury... A real positive is that the team spirit is clearly there to fight back like today. Earlier in the season we would have completely collapsed after their second goal...''

Skeglad said: ''Good fight back and if it hadn't been for an amazing save on 90 minutes by their keeper we would have won''.

Adamstag said: ''Clucas made the difference. The first half was dire - we were much improved. Clucas did a lot in the 2nd half. The belief of the players is still there despite the highly questionable team selection and tactics. We've enough to stay up, but not much more''.

Sneag said: ''It was same old same old until Clucas came on. Massive positives in the way the team fought today''.

Yorkshire stag said: ''Clucas made the difference, we played so narrow first half I really despair in Cox's formations & tactics. Dug deep, well worth a point''.

Nick_stags said: ''Clucas changed the game, but Cox does deserve credit for the Palmer substitution and change in system which saw us attack much more in the second half''.

Nobody said: ''Once we were 2.0 down we had no other choice but to attack''.

Mattstag14 said: ''Clucas was brilliant, what a superb talent. Wycombe finally had some pace to deal with when he came on. Best player on the pitch by a mile in my opinion''.

DoomMerchant said: ''Our defence looked shambolic at times this afternoon and not their normal solid self. Odd really cos Wycombe looked very ordinary up front; in fact they're another poor side we've failed to beat at home''.

danielmachin said: ''Thought we were the better side, but dempster getting beat on the halfway line and then Taffazolli more focussed in hauling his man down allowed them to put a cracking ball in for the second, very good advantage from the referee.

We were in my opinion though the better side, and the last 20 minutes we looked a confident team like we did last season. Was pleasing to see us go 4-4-2 then 4-2-4 to push for the goal too.''

Bellwhiff said: ''The league is extremely compressed. Northampton appear to be adrift but we are only eight or nine points behind the team just outside the play off positions''.

Alanstag said: ''I think we more than deserved the draw although after going 2 down it looked like game over. We had many more chances than Wycombe to score but through a combination of poor finishing and excellent goalkeeping we couldn't convert them. Great character shown to come back from 2 down but really we could have won the game on another day''.

Calstag said: ''My honest opinion is I thought we were totally the best side, Wycombe had what 5 chances all game and 1 was a screamer and the other poor defending but still a cracking finish''.

Lifestags said: ''My thoughts of the game are that I am quite content with a point. Unreal how they went 2 0 up in the 1st place! I thought we looked very very slow up top and not being able to create anything from open play until Clucas came on, then Clements began to get into the game and dictate things and from then on it was all pressure from us''.

1970Stag said: ''Their goalkeeper made three excellent saves that kept them in the game!''

SINA STAG said: ''Their keeper MOM, made some great saves''.
