Beaconsfield knock Wycombe out of B&B

Beaconsfield SYCOB 3-3 Wycombe Wanderers AET (4-2 pens)

Wycombe Wanderers exited the Berks and Bucks Cup at the semi final stage after a penalty shoot out defeat to Beaconsfield SYCOB this evening.

It came after a 3-3 draw from 120 minutes of play which saw Steven Craig bag a brace and Lee Angol also fortuitously score.

In a 4-4-2 system, Wycombe lined up with Charlie Horlock in goal, Ainsworth and Kretzschmar at right and left full back, Hause and Stewart at centre back, Spring and Kewley-Graham in central midfield, Morias and Kuffour on the wings, with Craig and Angol starting up front.

The hosts took the lead after just four minutes from a 25 yard free kick by Tom O'Regan, but the Chairboys responded just two minutes later as Steven Craig turned and fired home.

Beaconsfield regained the lead on the half hour mark courtesy of Jon-Joe Bates following an ill advised decision by Horlock to leave his line, but again the lead was short lived as Kuffour's shot cannoned off Angol and found the net just seven minutes later.

It looked like the Wanderers had secured their passage through to the final as Craig netted his second with fifteen minutes remaining from a Spring through ball, but a header two minutes from time by Kofi Adams ensured the match went to extra time.

No goals were scored and no substitutions were made as Ainsworth completed a full 120 minutes and McClure, McCoy and Bloomfield remained unused substitutes. Jo Kuffour missed an absolute sitter whilst Ainsworth had to clear one effort off the line.

The match eventually went to penalties and despite this reporter having already departed, I am reliably informed that even with the hosts missing one spot kick, Craig and Morias failed to find the net to condemn the Chairboys to a shock defeat against a side four divisions below them as Beaconsfield secured their passage through to the final.

Ratings: Horlock (5), Ainsworth (6), Stewart (6), Hause (6), Kretzschmar (7), Morias (4), Spring (6), Kewley-Graham (6), Kuffour (5), Angol (7), Craig (7).
