'If It's Football, It's Vital'

The Opposition View - Newport County

In the wake of yesterday's 1-0 defeat at home to Newport County, here are some thoughts on the game from the Exiles' manager Justin Edinburgh and a few of their fans.

The Newport boss was delighted with the quality of the winning goal.

"I thought the finish was sublime," he purred.

"For Adam Chapman to have the vision to see that pass is levels above this league, and the finish from Mike Flynn was executed brilliantly. It's probably the best goal we've scored this season."

"There were two contrasting halves today," said the Exiles' boss.

"I thought we dominated the first half in terms of possession and threat. In the second half we had to defend very well. Any win away from home needs a very good performance."

Commenting on how well his side are doing in their first season back in the football league, Edinburgh said: "We are getting closer to survival which was the aim of the football club. But now that we're where we are, I think we have to be positive and aim as high as we can possibly go."

The Newport fans are a happy bunch at the moment, and so they should be.

'Average game. County the better team. Goal utterly brilliant.'

'Adam Chapman is showing his class yet again, and in a couple more matches Mike Flynn could be top scorer.'

'Chapman was all over the midfield today and Flynn scored as good a goal as you will see for County all season!'

'Excellent team performance and a thoroughly professional win away from home. Sublime finish by Flynn - a quality goal. Always felt we were the better side and the only way they were going to score was if we messed up. We gave them a couple of chances like that, but there was always an Amber shirt in their way. Well done lads, superb win. Onwards and upwards.'

'Another fine performance by County who garnered their third away win of the season. The main highlights of the match were Flynn's spectacular goal and Jackson's tackle to save County from conceding.'

'Jackson is my MOTM for that goal saving tackle. What a signing he's turned out to be. Chapman is now starting to show his class, and a great goal by Flynn. Doesn't look like another Wembley visit though, because we're going up as champs. Roll on Burton on Sunday.'

'We looked solid at the back today and could have won by more. We are serious promotion contenders.'

'First half we should have put the game to bed.'

'We certainly are going strongly at the moment, and who would have thought it after the injury-plagued season we've had so far. It all depends on how others around us strengthen in the transfer window, but with some of the casualties well on in their rehab we should get stronger if anything.'

'Newport County. Now 10 games unbeaten.'

'Of our remaining 25 games, 14 are at home, and with players returning to fitness, I really think these are great times to be a county fan. All we need is a replacement for Zebroski to push us over the line.'
