Preview: Dagenham & Redbridge v Wycombe Wanderers

Wycombe Wanderers travel to Dagenham and Redbridge on Saturday for their 18th league game of the season.

With three defeats, two draws and one abandonment in their last six league outings, the Blues have forgotten how it feels to collect all three points and will be desperate to stop the rot.

After winning 1-0 at Bristol Rovers 40 days ago, Gareth Ainsworth's side climbed to 7th in the table, but recent results have seen them drop to 15th, eight points below the final play-off spot, albeit with a game in hand.

Tuesday's 1-1 draw at home to Exeter sparked a notable reaction among Wycombe fans. It was naturally disappointing to drop two points late in the game having held the lead for over 70 minutes, but certain aspects of the performance have created a stir.

The message boards of both the Blues and the Grecians were filled with allegations of negative, unimaginative football and chronic time wasting from the Wanderers. And they had a point.

Having taken the lead, Wycombe failed to press home their advantage, looked low on confidence, wasted time, and only came back to life after the visitors had equalised.

Square pegs in round holes made for a disjointed performance at a time when Wycombe desperately need to overcome their painful inconsistency and make Adams Park a more difficult place to visit.

With 17 games played, the Blues have collected 22 points which, despite their current form, is 9 points more than they had at the same stage last season.

But beware. It was at this point last season that Wycombe dramatically improved their results, winning 9, drawing 2 and losing just 2 of their next 13 league games.

Replicate that form, and the Blues will be well positioned for a promotion push. Continue as they have been recently, and the 9 point improvement on last season will soon be gobbled up.

Unfortunately, Victoria Road is not the easiest place to visit when you can't buy a win. The Daggers boast the third-best home record in the division, with 6 wins, 2 draws and only 1 defeat in all competitions on their own turf.

However, Ainsworth's reign as Wycombe manager started with a 3-0 defeat at Dagenham in September of last year, and the Blues' boss will be keen to demonstrate that his side have improved since then.

The Man In The Middle

Saturday's referee is Keith Stroud from Hampshire who was promoted to the National List of Referees in 2004. Last season he took charge of Wycombe's 2-1 defeat at home to Rochdale. During the current campaign, he's issued 3 red and 71 yellow cards in 16 games.

Prediction

Dagenham 1 Wycombe 1
