The Opposition View - Morecambe

Following Wycombe Wanderers much-needed 1-0 victory over Morecambe at the Globe Arena on Easter Monday, here are the views on the game from Shrimps boss Jim Bentley and a few of their fans.

Bentley said: "I'm shell shocked to be honest because we were terrible. It was definitely the worst performance I have seen since I took over and I feel really flat. It was an awful game of football full stop and I feel sorry for the fans that came to the game and will say sorry to them for what they saw."

"The conditions were poor and the pitch was an absolute killer for us as we couldn't play the football we wanted. Because of that we had to show a bit more guile to try and create an opening but we didn't do anything and we have to be much better than that."

"The game was always likely to be won or lost on a set piece and that is how it proved and I want much more from my lads because even though we have 52 points we are not mathematically safe and need to show far more desire and creativity than we did here."

Morecambe supporters were far from impressed at both the performance and result of their side but their post-match views sound remarkably similar to those of Wycombe fans on Good Friday!

The following extracts are taken from the Shrimps Voices forum.

"Well was that the worst game of football you've seen this season? It was my worst for sure."

"Worse than pub football. Abysmal high ball football from us in those conditions? At least Wycombe tried to keep it down."

"I WANT to put it down to end of season mentality BUT I just can't accept the rubbish that was served up today. Very poor and most certainly not the type of performance that would encourage an increase in attendances that the club so badly needs."

"I heard Mark read out the attendance of 1700 and whatever and thought why do the people of Morecambe not support their local team and by the end of the game I had the answer . That was utter rubbish today it was as though Wycombe had turned up unannounced and we had not done any homework on them which I am sure that is not the case. Seven points from the drop and I really can`t see where the next point is coming from, a tough few weeks to come me thinks."

"Dire
No fight
Holiday mode
Wycombe wanted it more
Hoof ball
Crap pitch
Freezing
Windy
Beer prices gone up after duty goes down....

I for one am really worried for the future, we'll be lucky to get 500 fans if it continues like that."

"Can't really be too bothered to get too worked up over a meaningless match, it wasn't great but a good shift from Wycombe stopped us playing and left us resorting to long balls. Poor match, but one of those end of season affairs that are necessary to fulfil the fixture list. Still, would rather lose a meaningless match going gung ho than the way we went about it today."

Posh wrote:
"I brought four kids and three adults to today`s game, most for their first time and probably their last. I apologised profusely and blamed the pitch, wind and end of season but largely in vain. Abysmal game of football that if it hadn't had the moment at the start of the second half would have been almost entirely devoid of entertainment."

"Not a good afternoon. Poor attendance for a Bank Holiday. 158 fans Wycombe brought I've just read on Twitter. Kevin Ellison, again disappointing today I'm afraid. He had a great afternoon though shouting, bawling and effing at his team mates as we could clearly hear from being stood on the North Terrace. As has been said, felt like a proper end of season game."
