Ainsworth - the story so far

Gareth Ainsworth joined the Chairboys back in November 2009 on loan from Queens Park Rangers and made an immediate impact on his debut when the side recorded a shock 2-0 victory over Millwall at the New Den. He played one more game before pulling a calf muscle which left him sidelined for six weeks.

He returned to Adams Park in January 2010, signing an 18-month contract but despite some impressive performances, including a memorable "hand of Gaz" goal to snatch an injury-time equaliser in a 1-1 draw at erstwhile enemies Colchester United, the side were relegated from League One at the end of the season.

Something of a talismanic figure as the club bounced straight back to League One at the first attempt. Ainsworth scored eleven goals (ten in League Two), including some spectacular strikes, to help the side finish in 3rd place in the table and win promotion.

He was unable to match that goal tally last time around (finding the net just twice) as League One was again to be found beyond the side's capabilities and the Blues were relegated back to League One. He signed a new joint player-coach contract in the summer to work with close friend Gary Waddock.

All the writers at Vital Wycombe would like to wish new manager Gareth Ainsworth every success and offer our full support.
