'If It's Football, It's Vital'

The Opposition View - Charlton

In the wake of yesterday's 2-1 home defeat to Charlton, here are some views on the game from the Addicks' manager Chris Powell and a few of their fans.

Powell was delighted that his side won without playing particularly well.

"It's good that we can leave our passing game behind and show some character," he said.

"We have to dig deep sometimes to make sure we see things out."

"People talk about 2-0 being a tough scoreline but if you're two goals ahead it's good. It is one of those where you think 'do you go for it or do you sit back?' Fair play to Wycombe, they smelt they could possibly get something, but we saw it out."

The Charlton fans felt their side were always in control.

"It was a fairly comfortable win, although Wycombe's comeback goal gave them an extra spring in their step. I thought we weathered their flurry fairly comfortably to be honest. It was a bit scrappy at times, Wycombe played a lot of long balls.'

"Excellent attitude. Hustled and controlled the first half and were well worth our lead. Didn't have as much possession in the second half but never felt we would concede two.'

"Worked hard first half and played some nice football, should have put it to bed. Second half we were comfortable until they scored.'

"A bit of a disjointed display but got the job done.'

"It we can play as averagely as we did tonight, and win, then I'm very positive about the future.'

"They got at us for first 30 mins of 2nd half and deserved a goal. For the first time ever we looked the physically bigger team.'

"If Wycombe play like that (2nd half performance) this Saturday, then they will beat Wednesday. Tough 2nd half for us but sometimes you have to win ugly.'

"Wycombe did try to get at us second half but I don't think we had any real scares at 2-1.'

"Good turn out, shame the Wycombe fans didn't add to the atmosphere other than for 3 minutes after they scored.'

Henry Irving wrote:
"Second half they stepped it up, got in our faces and got a deserved goal although I didn't feel they would score again and thought we were more likely. It certainly wasn't a backs to the wall performance. Nice ground, friendly fans, good away end, rubbish exiting from car park but who cares when you've won.'

"The friendly demeanor of all the Wycombe staff was a refreshing change, they were a credit to their club.'
