Stones give the Blues a fright

Stones give the Blues a fright

Wealdstone 1 Wycombe Wanderers 1

Both goals were scored during an evenly matched first-half, but the Stones were the more impressive side after the break and will consider themselves unfortunate not to have claimed the Chairboys' scalp.

The visitors opened the scoring after 16 minutes when Scott Rendell cushioned a ball into the path of Matt Bloomfield who duly tucked it into the corner of the net.

The Stones' equaliser was scored on the stroke of half-time when Dave Hicks slotted the ball past Steve Arnold after a fine passage of play from the home side.

It was no more than the Ryman League outfit deserved and they were even better in the second-half, hitting the woodwork twice and creating several other opportunities to win the game.

Wycombe's best chance of a disappointing second-period fell to Scott Rendell who totally miscued his shot with only the keeper to beat.

On tonight's evidence, Grosvenor Vale is a place to watch attractive football and the Stones must be in with a great chance of success in the Ryman league this season.

The Blues can only put this one down as a fitness exercise.

Wycombe line-up

Arnold (Mehmet 67), McCoy, Winfield (Stewart 45), Doig, Dunne, Harris, Bloomfield, Harding, Strevens, McClure, Rendell.
