Blues start with a 5-0 win at Staines

Wycombe Wanderers started their pre-season campaign with a 5-0 win at Staines Town this afternoon.

The Blues chose to field a different team in each half as the players gradually work towards full fitness.

First Half line-up
Arnold, Scowen, Tunnicliffe, Johnson, Dunne, Kewley-Graham, Halls, Donnelly, Strevens, McClure, Beavon.

Second Half line-up
Ingram, McCoy, Stewart, Winfield, Sandell, Harris, Lewis, Harding, Grant, Ibe, Rendell.

The star of the first-half was Stuart Beavon who scored one goal and provided two assists as the Blues raced to a 4-0 half-time lead.

Matt McClure had a long-range effort saved after 12 minutes, but Beavon found the net moments later with a 30-yard shot that the Staines keeper really should have stopped.

Two minutes later the keeper made amends by tipping Beavon's rasping drive over the bar, and after 25 minutes he foiled the striker again by turning another of his shots round the post for a corner.

After 28 minutes Beavon caused havoc in the Staines box by chasing a lost cause and creating the opportunity for Jesse Kewley-Graham to slot the ball into an empty net.

McClure headed home the third goal after 35 minutes when the keeper could only parry Beavon's shot into his path.

The fourth goal also came from McClure's head, this time from Scott Donnelly's cross on the stroke of half-time.

The highlight of the second-half was 15 year-old Jordan Ibe's goal - a fierce strike off the underside of the crossbar after 65 minutes.

In other goalmouth action, Andy Sandell had a free kick saved and Scott Rendell worked the keeper following a good run from Marvin McCoy.

Rendell then hit the bar with a header, while at the other end, Matt Ingram made a fine diving save to preserve the clean sheet for Wycombe.
