Local boy Benyon joins the Blues

Wycombe Wanderers have signed striker Elliot Benyon on a season-long loan from Swindon Town.

Born in High Wycombe, Benyon joined the newly-relegated Robins from Torquay United for an undisclosed fee in January and scored once in 7 starts and 5 substitute-appearances for his new club during the second-half of their League One campaign.

The 23 year-old began his career at Bristol City but never played for the first-team. Successful loan spells at St Albans and Crawley were enough to tempt Torquay into signing him in June 2007 and his goalscoring exploits at Plainmoor earned him the move to Swindon.

Benyon's career stats are as follows.....

Bristol City...................0 starts - 0 sub apps - 0 goals

St Albans (loan)..........10 starts - 0 sub apps - 6 goals

Crawley Town (loan)...12 starts - 0 sub apps - 3 goals

Torquay Utd...............88 starts - 56 sub apps - 46 goals

Swindon Town..............7 starts - 5 sub apps - 1 goal

Total.....................117 starts - 61 sub apps - 56 goals

Blues boss Gary Waddock told wwfc.com: "He's a local lad with the drive to succeed here. He's a good addition to the group; a hard working striker who possesses great movement."

Benyon said: "It's always been an ambition of mine to play for Wycombe and I can't wait to get started."

Benyon was the last throw of Danny Wilson's dice at Swindon. He resigned not long after. Benyon wasn't the sort of player to get Town out of the mire. I'm sure that he'll do well with some continuity.
