The Opposition View - Stevenage

The Opposition View - Stevenage

In the wake of yesterday's dismal defeat at home to Stevenage, here are some views on the game from Boro manager Graham Westley and a few of their fans.

Westley felt his side deserved to win by a more convincing margin.

"I felt we could have won by more goals," he said. "Every player worked hard out on the pitch to get us the result. They were a League One side last season and we were in the Conference - that shows how far we've come."

"We knew we had done well in the first half, but we also knew it would take more in the second-half if we wanted to win the game. There were positives in the way we started the second half, and the goal was deserved."

It seems that anger was the driving force behind some of Boro's assaults.

"It was a physical game," said Westley. "After the disappointment of last week, there was a lot of anger in us to get back to the level we're capable of."

The Stevenage fans thought Wycombe were dreadful.

'One of my proudest days-out as a boro fan, we made an absolute racket and the commitment from the players was amazing.'

'It wasn't exceptional as a performance but we bossed the game and created a hatful of chances. Bull's save down to his left was awesome to prevent 2-0. We made them look awful.'

'Good passing, flowing football and solid defending. A superb performance and very well controlled when we went down to ten men. Nikki Bull kept them in the game.'

'We started the game on top, THEY tried to break it up by diving and surrounding the referee. We got the goal and went on to boss the game despite their best efforts to get our players sent off.'

'What struck me most was the lack of desire Wycombe showed. Third in the table, you'd think they would be right up for it, but we out-fought them for every 50/50 ball.'

'Ainsworth was in the ref's ear all game. I always thought Wycombe were a good footballing side, but not on today's performance. They were more interested in getting our players booked and sent off.'

'I hope Wycombe lose their ground now, after their antics - trying to get our players booked all the time, and succeeding with Laird.'

'So who do we want to play in the playoffs?'

'Wycombe, they're sh*t.'
