Preview: Barnet v Wycombe Wanderers

Wycombe Wanderers travel to Barnet on Tuesday for their 35th league game of the season.

The league table currently shows Wycombe in 3rd place with 57 points from 34 games and Barnet in 23rd spot with 31 points from 34 games

Barnet's Home Record........Won 6 - Drawn 3 - Lost 8 - Pts 21 (Rank-19)

Wycombe's Away Record....Won 7 - Drawn 4 - Lost 5 - Pts 25 (Rank-3)

When Barnet visited Adams Park in September, Wycombe had collected only 9 points from their first 8 league games and were lying 16th in the table.

Their 4-2 victory over the Bees that night was the catalyst for a superb run of results which saw the Blues win 25 points in their next 12 games.

Spookily, almost six months later, Wycombe travel to Barnet having collected only 8 points from their last 8 games and needing roughly 25 points from their remaining 12 games in order to stand a decent chance of automatic promotion.

Let's hope history repeats itself and the Blues use tomorrow night's match as a springboard to better results, or yet again, a Wycombe team will have wasted a great first-half of the season by wobbling when the going gets tough.

With games fast running out, and the chasing pack gaining ground with every passing week, a trip to the 2nd bottom club should be exactly what Wycombe need to get their season back on track.

It's true that the Blues have an appalling record at Underhill, but with three-quarters of the season gone, Barnet are yet to win a game - home or away - against a side currently in the top half of the table, and the draw they gained at Rotherham on Saturday provided only their 5th point against a top-twelve side in 17 attempts.

Yes, the Bees will be giving 100% as they fight to preserve their league status, but you would expect Wycombe to match that commitment as they strive to remain in the top-three, and if the league table doesn't lie, the Blues have better players than Barnet.

Despite being under new management since January, the Bees have won only 1 of their last 10 games, and have scored more than a single goal only once during that time.

They've beaten Cheltenham, Hereford, Macclesfield, Northampton, Accrington and Lincoln at Underhill this season, but have lost to Rotherham, Bradford, Stevenage, Gillingham, Stockport, Aldershot, Southend and Torquay.

The Blues may well start with the same defence and central-midfield that lined-up against Aldershot on Saturday, but who plays on which wing and who starts up-front is less clear.

Whoever starts, let's hope they play with the same determination they did against Burton a few weeks ago, beat the Bees and get the promotion campaign back on track before disappointment becomes a habit.
