Preview: Wycombe Wanderers v Rotherham United

Wycombe Wanderers entertain Rotherham United on Saturday in their 25th league game of the season.

The league table currently shows Wycombe in 2nd place with 43 points from 24 games and Rotherham in 3rd spot with 41 points from 23 games

Wycombe's Home Record.....Won 6 - Drawn 3 - Lost 3 - Pts 21 (Rank-6)

Rotherham's Away Record....Won 5 - Drawn 3 - Lost 2 - Pts 18 (Rank-3)

Having reached the heady heights of second following their 2-1 win at Lincoln last Saturday, the Blues will almost certainly have to beat close rivals Rotherham if they hope to remain in the automatic promotion places at the end of the month.

Yes, the table could look very different by then. This is Wycombe's last outing in January whereas most of their rivals have two further opportunities to pile on the points. And by the time they host Cheltenham on 1st Feb, the Blues will have one or two games in hand over all the clubs currently in the top six.

Saturday's encounter is also the first of three consecutive home games which would have been a big worry earlier this season, but has become less of a concern as home results have improved - with the Blues winning four of their last five league games at Adams Park.

What is a worry, is how the Blues' defence will cope with nippy little nuisance Adam Le Fondre. The division's top scorer with 17 goals in all competitions, "Alf" hasn't found the net once in the Millers' last four games and will fancy his chances of rectifying that against the less than mobile pairing of Westwood and Winfield.

One option would be to bring back a fit-again Leon Johnson who played in the B&B Cup on Tuesday and arguably deserves to regain his place based on his recent performances. Marvin McCoy is almost certain to keep the right-back spot he's occupied with style over the last few weeks.

Kevin Betsy is doubtful with a groin strain and his attacking threat will be sorely missed by the team, although probably not by the bloke behind me who spends the entire game moaning about him.

Loan-signing Scott Donnelly could be given a start in Betsy's absence, while Scott Rendell will be available for selection again after missing the trip to Lincoln.

The last time these two sides met at Adams Park they bored the nation rigid with a dour goalless draw televised by Sky. Three months ago at the Don Valley however, they served-up a seven goal thriller which upset Millers' boss Ronnie Moore who reacted to his side's 4-3 defeat by saying: "I think we're a miles better side than them, but you have to win the games and they've got away with the points."

The Rotherham manager is another one who won't miss Betsy, having said after the match: "Betsy just cheats in there, doesn't track back, doesn't do anything but picks it up and can hurt you. He's destroyed us today to be honest. We couldn't cope with the way he was cheating."

Wouldn't it be nice to make Mr Moore eat his words on Saturday.
