Preview: Chesterfield v Wycombe Wanderers

Wycombe Wanderers are set to make their first ever visit to Chesterfield's new b2net stadium on Bank Holiday Tuesday.

Chesterfield currently sit on top of the League Two table with 38 points from 19 games. Wycombe meanwhile are four points behind them in fifth place having played a game more.

Chesterfield's Home Record.Won 8 - Drawn 1 - Lost 2 - Pts 25 (Rank 1)

Wycombe's Away Record.....Won 4 - Drawn 4 - Lost 1 - Pts 16 (Rank 2)

With the 2-1 defeat to the Spireites at Adams Park back in October still fresh in the memory, the return fixture provides plenty of incentives. The Chairboys will be looking to lay down a marker against the current top dogs in the division and could climb to within a point of their opponents with victory.

There is little to fear from John Sheridan's men who have hit a rocky patch of form in the build up to the holiday period which included a 2-1 home defeat to Oxford United. They have also been frustrated by a lack of action due to the freezing conditions.

Leading goalscorer Craig Davies has been sidelined with a hamstring injury but is likely to be fit to return against the Wanderers. He bagged a brace in their win at Adams Park. Fellow striker Dean Morgan is also likely to be fit after injury.

Wycombe have midfielder Lewis Montrose available again after suspension and the only man definitely ruled-out is striker Jon-Paul Pittman who continues his recovery from a knee ligament injury. The official reason for striker Scott Rendell missing the Boxing Day victory over Hereford United was 'illness' and he is unlikely to to be in the squad for the trip to Chesterfield.

The late victory over the Bulls was a triumph of character for a Blues' side who battled against off-field issues, a tricky pitch and opposition that fought hard themselves. They should take some confidence from the win into tomorrow's game.

The most likely outcome however is a postponement. The b2net stadium may be new but it doesn't boast similar facilities to Adams Park, including undersoil heating. The pitch has been frozen for some time and with temperatures set to continue below freezing over night, there is only the slimmest of chances of the game going ahead.
