Preview: Wycombe Wanderers v Bury

Wycombe Wanderers entertain Bury on Saturday in their 19th league game of the season.

The league table currently shows Wycombe in 7th place with 28 points and Bury in 3rd spot with 34 points.

Wycombe's Home Record....Won 3 - Drawn 3 - Lost 3 - Pts 12 (Rank 16)

Bury's Away Record............Won 7 - Drawn 1 - Lost 1 - Pts 22 (Rank 1)

Bury arrive at Adams Park aiming for a club record seventh successive away win in the league. The Shakers' Championship winning side won six in a row on their travels in 1960, and the current crop recently equalled that feat with a 5-0 win over Lincoln City at Sincil Bank.

The visitors also occupy the final automatic promotion place - six points ahead of Wycombe - making this a crucial game for the Blues, who can reduce the deficit to a manageable three points with a win, or see the gap stretched to a daunting nine points if they lose.

One player to watch out for is Bury's on-loan striker Nicky Ajose. The Manchester United youngster arrived at Gigg Lane in late September and has since scored six goals in eleven league games. His impressive performances have led many pundits to suggest that Bury's promotion hopes could hinge upon them securing his services for the remainder of the season.

Wycombe come into this game on the back of two consecutive league defeats, although they did beat non-league Chelmsford City in the FA Cup in their last outing.

Following an unacceptable performance in their 3-1 defeat at home to Torquay, Blues' manager Gary Waddock shuffled his pack for the cup game and it will be interesting to see whether he sticks with some of the players who made the most of their opportunity against Chelmsford.

Striker Scott Rendell seems certain to retain his place following a fine two-goal haul against the Clarets, while the defence looked better balanced with Leon Johnson on the left of centre and the experienced Chris Westwood doing a solid job in the problematic right-back spot.

Stuart Lewis and Lewis Montrose are likely to compete for a starting spot alongside Matt Bloomfield in central midfield, while Marvin McCoy, Josh Parker and Kieran Murtagh could all feature in the squad having returned from international duty with Antigua and Barbuda.

Whoever Waddock selects, he'll be looking for an improvement in Wycombe's poor record against their fellow promotion contenders. Having already played the other five teams above them in the table, the Blues have collected only 4 points from a possible 15 and have banked only 1 point from their three home games against Shrewsbury, Chesterfield and Torquay.

The following 'Mini-Table' shows how the top-seven have fared in games against each other so far this season.
