Recent results give Waddock's Wycombe a good start

With just over a third of the season gone, Wycombe Wanderers' recent results have turned a disappointing start into one of the best since the club joined the football league.

Things looked grim when Gary Waddock's newly-relegated side collected only 9 points from their first 8 league games. A solitary win, six draws and one defeat might have indicated that the Blues were hard to beat, but at just over a point a game it certainly wasn't promotion winning form.

Turning draws into victories was the the order of the day, and that's exactly what Wycombe did, with a remarkable haul of 19 points from their next 8 games, courtesy of six wins, one draw and one defeat.

Put the two together and you arrive at their current position - 28 points from 16 games - a start which has been bettered only four times in the eighteen seasons Wycombe have competed in the football league.

The following table shows how many points Wycombe have collected after 16 games in every season since they joined the football league, what position they were in at the time, and where they eventually finished up.
