Wycombe Wanderers have offered young winger Matt Phillips a contract extension according to reports in the Bucks Free Press.
Phillips has been the subject of much transfer speculation in recent weeks with Southampton, Watford, Preston and Leeds all rumoured to be taking an interest in the England U19 International.
Bristol City made a firm bid earlier this week but it wasn't close to the Blues' valuation of their young starlet, and to complicate matters even further, Robins' manager Steve Coppell suddenly resigned from his post at Ashton Gate.
City may yet return with a better offer, but in the meantime, Wycombe have put one of their own to Phillips who has a year left on his current contract.
Blues boss Gary Waddock told the BFP: "We want to keep him, he's a talented footballer but if they meet the club's valuation we will talk about it. We have offered him a deal, it's on the table and it is up to him to decide whether he signs it or not."
Phillips himself said: "The talks are going well and hopefully we will be able to come to some agreement over the next few days or so. It`s a good club and it's moving in the right direction and until something happens or something is accepted this is where I am. I am here to play football and that's what I'm getting on with."
Phillips will be at Edgeley Park tomorrow for Wycombe's clash with Stockport County.
