Waddock draws a blank in search for striker

Waddock draws a blank in search for striker

Despite his best efforts, Wycombe Wanderers manager Gary Waddock was unable to sign a striker ahead of yesterday's loan-transfer deadline.

The Blues boss told the Bucks Free Press: "I was solidly on the phone for five hours on Wednesday so you can imagine how many phone calls I've made."

"It's been frustrating but clubs aren't prepared to let their strikers out at the moment and that's understandable," said Waddock.

One option would have been Sierra Leonne international Ishmail Foday Kamara who has been on trial at Adams Park and played in this week's reserve game against Peterborough United.

But Waddock decided not to sign the five-times capped striker, saying: "He won't be coming. He's not match-fit and we can't give him that in the position we are in and with the timescale we have got."

Last season, John Akinde arrived on loan from Bristol City and rescued the Blues' promotion campaign, but for this year's relegation battle they will have to rely on their existing strikeforce.
