Wycombe sign Alan Bennett from Brentford

Wycombe Wanderers have signed Brentford centre-back Alan Bennett on a one-month emergency loan.

Born in Cork, Bennett made 141 appearances for his local side Cork City before joining Reading in 2007.

Unable to force his way into the Royals' first team, the defender was loaned to Southampton for six months during which time he made ten appearances for the Saints.

Bennett then joined Brentford on loan and was an integral part of the Bees' side that won the League Two Championship last season, taking over as captain and lifting the trophy in the absence of regular skipper Kevin O'Connor.

In the Summer, Bennett joined Brentford on a permanent basis and was appointed club captain but has only made 16 appearances this season.

The 28 year-old also appeared for the Republic of Ireland against Ecuador and Bolivia in 2007.

Bennett's arrival at Adams Park quickly follows the signings of keeper Tom Heaton and full-back Julian Kelly as Wycombe manager Gary Waddock takes steps to tighten up a defence which has conceded an alarming number of goals this season.
