Wycombe sign new goalkeeper from Manchester United

Wycombe Wanderers have started to plug their leaky defence with the signing of Manchester United goalkeeper Tom Heaton on-loan for the rest of the season.

23 year-old Heaton is a former England Under-21 international who has previously enjoyed loan spells at Swindon Town, Cardiff City, QPR and Rochdale.

This season he played twice for QPR in the Carling Cup, including the Hoops' narrow 1-0 defeat against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge.

Heaton then joined League Two table-toppers Rochdale where he played 12 games, losing only once.

Wycombe manager Gary Waddock has signed Heaton in an attempt to rectify an appalling defensive record which has seen the Chairboys concede 68 goals in 34 games so far this season, including 56 league goals which is the worst performance of all 92 English league clubs.

Speaking to wwfc.com, Waddock said: "I'm delighted to have signed someone of his quality. Coming from a club like United and with the league experience he has gained, I'm sure that Tom will be a very good acquisition. Manchester United have been very helpful in letting Tom join us and I'm looking forward to working with him."

Heaton goes straight into the squad for tomorrow's game at Brentford.
