Chairboys sign Gareth Ainsworth

Wycombe Wanderers have today announced the signing of midfielder Gareth Ainsworth on an 18 month contract.

Ainsworth joins the Chairboys on a free transfer having ended his seven year association with QPR on Saturday, where he was given a rousing send off by their fans during the half time interval at Loftus Road.

The 36 year-old was on-loan at Adams Park earlier this season and played a starring role in Wycombe's wins over Millwall and Brentford in November before a calf injury cut short his stay.

The injury is still on the mend and Ainsworth is unlikely to feature for another two weeks.

Wycombe manager Gary Waddock told wwfc.com: "I'm delighted to have him on board on a permanent basis. Everyone knows what you are going to get with him and we all saw that during his loan spell."

On their messageboards, the QPR supporters paid tribute to the popular Ainsworth.

Guttermouth wrote:
"If we currently had even one player with a quarter of the desire and commitment Gareth shows on the pitch, we'd be a damn site better team than we are now."

QPR11 wrote:
"So glad I wasn't there to see him say goodbye, there would have been a river of tears flooding all around Shepherds Bush."

What a player what a man. Great signing for you guys at Wycombe. Wish he was coming back to Lincoln.

You have signed a true modern day legend. I hope he does his bit to keep Wycombe up. Good luck Gareth.
