Akinde recalled by Bristol City

Wycombe Wanderers today announced that Bristol City have recalled John Akinde.

The striker was due to remain at Adams Park until after the Chairboys' game against Charlton on 16th January and was widely expected to play against Leeds United this Saturday.

During a loan period at the end of last season, Akinde's goals were largely responsible for Wycombe hanging on to the final automatic promotion place in League Two, but this season's League One loan spells have been a different matter altogether.

In his first game of the season, Akinde was injured after just 37 minutes of Wycombe's 6-0 defeat at Huddersfield, causing him to miss the best part of four games and only manage two more starts before his first month's loan expired.

As soon as his loan was extended for a further month, Akinde scored his first goal of the season against Oldham but was then sent off for violent conduct after only 22 minutes.

The red card meant Akinde was suspended for the next three matches, all of which Wycombe lost.

This Saturday's game at Leeds was to have marked Akinde's return to action until Bristol City invoked their recall clause.
