Preview: Wycombe Wanderers v Brighton

Wycombe Wanderers entertain fellow strugglers Brighton at Adams Park on Monday as we enter the second half of the season with both clubs languishing in the relegation zone.

The two sides have already met three times this season with Brighton winning the league game at the Withdean Stadium 1-0 and also knocking Wycombe out of the FA Cup with a 2-0 home victory in the replay which followed a thrilling 4-4 draw at Adams Park.

Statistically there's not much to chose between the two sides, both have conceded over 50 goals in all competitions and neither are prolific goalscorers, although it's perhaps worrying to note that Brighton have scored 21% of their season's goal-tally against the Chairboys.

The Seagulls come into the game on the back of a disappointing goalless draw at home to Orient on Boxing Day, a game they would have been desperate to win with the O's just one place and three points ahead of them in 20th spot, just outside the relegation zone.

The Chairboys had high hopes of picking up a good tally of points in December, but their poor record against teams from the bottom half of the table has continued and yesterday's 4-0 defeat at Yeovil was the tenth time they have failed to beat a side from the lower half, their only success coming against bottom side Stockport County.

With Brighton in 21st place on 21 points and Wycombe in 23rd with 18, tomorrow's game is a real relegation battle which Wycombe certainly can't afford to lose and although both managers will tell you there's no such thing as a six-pointer, if there was, this is it.

Brighton skipper Andrew Crofts and striker Liam Dickinson are both suspended for Monday's game while Wycombe are missing injured duo Leon Johnson and Lewis Montrose along with the suspended John Akinde.

The Man In The Middle
Monday's referee is Steve Cook from Surrey who became a National List Referee in 2007. His last Wycombe game was the 1-0 defeat at Exeter City in April of this year. So far this season, he's issued an alarmingly high 78 yellow and 7 red cards in 18 games. In fact, Mr Cook has sent someone off in each of his last three matches.
