Preview: Carlisle United v Wycombe Wanderers

Wycombe Wanderers make the long journey to Carlisle United this weekend for their 21st league game of the season.

Carlisle are currently 12th in the table with 24 points from their opening 20 league games.

Unbeaten in their last four outings, during which they've taken the scalps of Franchise and Norwich City, the Cumbrians are only seven points below the play-offs and will be hoping to continue their good form against the Chairboys on Saturday.

With the experienced Graham Kavanagh, Ian Harte and Vincent Pericard in their side, Carlisle will be a tough nut to crack for a Wycombe side who are themselves enjoying a good spell and have high hopes of escaping the relegation zone before too long.

The Cumbrians are managed by Greg Abbott who joined the club as assistant manager in 2006 and went on to act as caretaker manager on two occasions before being offered the top job on a permanent basis in December 2008.

The venue for Saturday's match is Carlisle's Brunton Park Stadium which opened in 1909 and currently has a capacity of 16,981.

After winning the League Two championship in 2006, the Cumbrians adapted well to life in League One, finishing the following season in 8th place with 68 points and the next in 4th place with 80 points before losing 3-2 on aggregate to Leeds United in the play-off semi final.

Last season was a different matter though, with Carlisle narrowly escaping relegation after finishing 20th with 50 points, just one point clear of a return to League Two.

The Chairboys are currently 22nd in the table with 17 points from their opening 20 league games.

Having won three of their last four games, it's a confident Wycombe side that travel to Carlisle aiming to make further progress in their climb away from the bottom of the table and hopefully their eventual escape from the relegation zone.

In an excellent second-half performance against fellow strugglers Stockport County last Saturday, the Chairboys showed great character to come from behind and win 2-1, a result which takes them to 6th place in the League One form-guide over the last four games.

However, with only Leeds United having recorded more shots on target than Carlisle so far this season, keeper Scott Shearer will have to be on top form if the Chairboys are to keep their third clean sheet of the campaign on Saturday.

On the injury front, Leon Johnson and Lewis Montrose are still out and the Carlisle game is too soon for Gareth Ainsworth, but Tommy Doherty, Stuart Beavon and Matt Bloomfield are all fit to play.
