'If It's Football, It's Vital'

The Opposition View

Following Wycombe Wanderers gutsy defeat at Gillingham yesterday afternoon, here are some views on the game from Gills manager Mark Stimson and a few of their fans.

Stimson told The BBC's Football League Show: 'I think the performance was decent.'

Referring to the fact that Wycombe manager Peter Taylor was sacked the day before the game, the Gills boss said: 'We knew it was going to be difficult today obviously because of what's happened at Wycombe yesterday and you see a lot of that when the manager leaves, the team for some inexplicable reason liven up a bit and pull out some results.'

'After going 1-0 up and looking in control of the game the kid for them hits a wonder goal with his weak foot into the top corner and you think - could it be one of those days. But full credit to our boys, they've had some constructive criticism over the last week from myself and the other members of staff and they've taken it on board.'

Not many Gills fans' comments I'm afraid, they must have moved to a forum I can't find.

The following extracts are from 'Vital Gillingham,' 'Football Forums,' BBC606, 'The Football Forum,' 'The Final Score' and 'Gillingham Fansonline.'

'A bit of magic from Jackson which was an excellent finish got us the three points. We're lucky to have a player who can win a game out of nothing.'

'With Wycombe's current form I expected us to take all 3 points but Peter Taylor's departure seemed to spur them on. Pittman caused us problems all afternoon. He looked a very useful player. Woodman's goal was a cracker too! I didn't even rate Simeon Jackson's goal as a half-chance but he lobbed the keeper with aplomb from a very acute angle. As for Scott Shearer, he should be extremely embarrassed at his attempt to try and get one of our players sent off when he went down in a heap in the last 10 minutes. When the referee ignored him he quickly got to his feet. Pathetic.'

'I don't like that keeper Scott Shearer he is a cheat.'

'I thought Shearer rolling on the floor, then Duberry and the other bloke trying to get Gowling sent off was a complete disgrace.'

'We were poor today but Wycombe were awful and by far the worst team I have seen this season. If they don't get a decent manager in soon they will make an instant return to League Two.'

'At last we have a win and Jacko being back in side did help a lot. Thought it was a poor game, we weren't that good at all, but Wycombe weren't much better either. Wycombe's first goal was a good goal though.'

'A very enjoyable day, top notch the whole thing. As for us though, we were dire in defence and that was really worrying, a better team would have beaten us even though we dominated the whole thing.'
