Wycombe Wanderers manager Peter Taylor has been talking to his club's official website in the wake of Saturday's draw at Hartlepool United.
Supporters have been raving about Stuart Beavon's cameo appearances for weeks now, and following his first league start and man-of-the-match performance against Pools at the weekend, Taylor appears to have joined their ranks.
'He's a clever player,' said Taylor. 'He's in a position where he wants to go towards the ball which takes him into midfield and means he has to work a lot harder, but he's very capable, tough, brave and good in the air. He can score goals, so he can get better.'
'It was a great goal,' said the Wycombe boss. 'I thought he did some very good things. There are opportunities there to be grabbed and Stuart Beavon did that today.'
Taylor was pleased with aspects of Wycombe's performance on Saturday but disappointed at more poor defending which saw the Chairboys concede yet another soft goal. With 13 league goals conceded so far this season, the fact that 9 of them have come from set-pieces clearly rankles with Taylor:
'We've let in another very bad goal,' he said, 'I'm amazed that we're not more alert from set-pieces. People switch off.'
Looking for reasons, Taylor said: 'It was a very hot day and players worked exceptionally hard. When your legs get tired, your brain gets tired, so it may well be that.'
