Gary Holt has left Wycombe Wanderers after having his contract terminated by mutual consent.
The 36 year old midfielder started 80 games for the Chairboys in all competitions and scored three goals during his time at Adams Park, including a fine strike in front of the Sky cameras against Shrewsbury Town last season.
Following a recent meeting between Holt and manager Peter Taylor, the decision was reached because the Blues boss couldn't guarantee the veteran midfielder first team football every week.
Speaking to his club's official website, Taylor paid tribute to Holt.
'Since I've been at the club Gary has been a very good professional and because of that we were able to talk honestly about the prospect of how many games he would play.'
'I can't thank him enough for the way he has conducted himself both on and off the pitch and he will be a great signing for someone.'
Holt was disappointed but thanked Taylor for his honesty:
'I'm gutted, but things come to an end. I've had two great years here and ever since day one I've enjoyed playing for the club,' said Holt.
'I would like to thank Peter for being honest and rather than me playing fewer games next season it's better if I move on and look for another club.'
The news of Holt's departure comes just days after Wycombe signed midfielder Lewis Montrose from Wigan Athletic.
Thanks and good luck Gary - from a fellow Ayrshire exile !
