Wycombe Nudged Off The Top

Wycombe Nudged Off The Top

After four months at the top of League Two, Wycombe Wanderers find themselves in 2nd place tonight after Brentford took over pole position on goal difference alone.

However, despite dropping down a place, the Chairboys will not be too disappointed as things could have been a lot worse.

Wycombe have only been able to sit and watch recently as Brentford have set about reducing their four point lead at the top of the table.

Weather related postponements meant that since Wycombe last took the field ten days ago, Brentford have played three games against opposition from the bottom half of the table.

If the Bees had won them all they would be five points clear tonight but they only managed to take four points from a possible nine.

A defeat at Morecambe was followed by a home win over Chester before the Bees scraped a 1-1 draw at Accrington this evening courtesy of a stoppage time equaliser.

So, the two sides are now level on points at the top and are only separated by a single goal difference but Wycombe have the advantage of having played two games less than their West London rivals.
