Williamson Joins Watford

Mike Williamson has today joined Watford on a three and a half year deal.

The transfer fee remains undisclosed.

Wycombe don't score many goals and the main reason they rose to the top of League Two earlier this season was their superb defensive record.

Williamson was a key part of that defence and it remains to be seen just how much damage losing him will do to the Chairboys' promotion hopes.

The big defender is also the club's third highest scorer this season with 3 goals.

Wycombe manager Peter Taylor told his club's official website:

'Mike expressed a desire to play in the Championship. Unfortunately a Championship club wanted to buy him and he was out of contract in the summer '

'I decided to recommend we accept the offer and let the sale go through.'

'No one blames him for wanting to leave.'

'I've been really pleased with the way Mike has played during the opening half of the season and he helped us tremendously to get us in the position we are in, but obviously I am disappointed to lose him.'

'I would like to thank him for his efforts and I hope it turns out to be a good move for him.'

In a recent poll on this site 473 votes were cast and 83% were in favour of keeping Williamson until the end of the season to aid the promotion push, even if it meant losing him for nothing in the Summer.

Very impressive debut, very good player and i am sure a major loss to you boys. hope Taylor gets you a good replacement. Also, I understand that Mark Ashton may be joining your board of directors, be very carefull of this person, he did his utmost to destroy our club and i think Osuma Bin Laden would be more welcome at watford than this tool!
