Wycombe Wanderers supporters will enjoy Christmas that little bit more this year with their team sitting proudly at the top of the table and nine points clear of their nearest rivals.
We're not even half way through the campaign yet and it's too early to get carried away with thoughts of promotion, but let's have a look at where the League Two Christmas leaders have finished at the end of the season in recent years.
The Following table shows who was top as they ate their turkey, along with their pre-Christmas record and where they finished at the end of the campaign.
2001/02 Plymouth: Played-23 Points-48 Promoted as Champions
2002/03 Hartlepool: Played-22 Points-44 Promoted in 2nd Place
2003/04 Doncaster: Played-22 Points-46 Promoted as Champions
2004/05 Scunthorpe: Played-22 Points-47 Promoted in 2nd Place
2005/06 Wycombe: Played-22 Points-41 Finished 6th
2006/07 Walsall : Played-23 Points-49 Promoted as Champions
2007/08 MK Dons: Played-21 Points-45 Promoted as Champions
2008/09 Wycombe: Played-21 Points-44 Finished - ???????
So, everyone got promoted except for us in 2005/06, but we know there were extenuating circumstances surrounding our slump that season.
Let's hope the current squad can keep up their good work all the way to the finishing line and that Wycombe fans start turning out in their numbers to support the Chairboys in what just might be a season to remember.
Merry Christmas
