Wycombe: The Opposition View

Following yesterday evening's 1-1 draw with Barnet at Underhill, here are some views from The Bees' manager and a few of their fans.

Barnet manager Paul Fairclough told his clubs official site: 'We've played the team at the top of the league and I'm despondent that we've only got a point out of it really. I thought it was probably the best 45 minutes we've had here this season, we totally dominated the game.'

'Wycombe upped their game there's no question, but we weathered it and I felt we got to grips with the game again and looked the most likely to score. I was disappointed with the goal, we gave the ball away in the middle of the park when we didn't need to.'

Fairclough went on to Say:

'They're a good side, an organised side, but we've more than matched them tonight and I'm disappointed that we haven't got all three points.'

The Bees' fans had the usual mix of opinions. Some rated us and some didn't, but a lot of them liked Matty Phillips.

The following extracts are from BBC 606, Barnet's 'Official message board', 'The Football Forum' and 'Football Forums'.

'I know it is a cliche, but a real game of two halves tonight. First half was the best I have seen us in ages Second half they stepped up their level and due to a combination of tiredness and quality we were unable to match them. Good game, good point.'

'Although I'm happy with a point which was a fair result, I'm disappointed that it wasn't three because frankly, WW were nothing special.'

'A draw really was a fair result.I thought their sub Phillips, on the wing, made a huge difference in the second half and exploited our fatigue.'

'A decent performance all-round. I don't think any neutral observer would have known that they were top of the table, whilst we languish near the bottom. They looked very ordinary.'

'Largely a very good performance. Going down the hill in the 1st half we dominated and scored a good goal. Second half they improved after bringing on Phillips who was a dangerous winger. Overall, very good performance against a good side.'

'I think credit should also go to the Wycombe manager who turned around their tactics for the second half.'

'Good result, a bit of a shame we couldn't hang on for all three points, but a point against an unbeaten Wycombe side is hardly a poor showing.'

'A dull game with defences on top, Barnet shading the first half, Wycombe shading the second. Second half Wycombe came back into it, their substitute Phillips gave us a torrid time down the left, eventually setting up the equaliser.'

'Good game tonight, always seems to be the way on a Tuesday. Looked very good in the first half, but Wycombe were decidedly on top of the second. Decent turnout from Wycombe, and pretty noisy as well. Fair play.'
